Ever thought about writing a novel? Well, National Novel Writing Month is here to help get you inspired to do so. The non-profit organization, also known as NaNoWriMo, takes creative writing to a whole new level because they believe “your story matters.” On November 1, people start writing to meet one goal: a 50,000 word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30.
If you missed the deadline this year, don’t fret because writing a novel is perfect for any month. Here are a few tips you know before you start writing your first novel.
Keep Looking Forward
Remember why you started writing this novel in the first place. Do not let the distractions of everyday life take away your focus.
What Kind of Book Would You Like to Read?
Write something that you would read. It’ll make it more enjoyable to write and it’ll remind you to think of future readers.
The Write Utensils
Every new author needs a few basic writing instruments. A multifunctional pen with a stylus is perfect when going back and forth between writing on paper and a touchscreen device. A pencil can be used if you are nervous about mistakes but a nice notepad is always essential.
Remember to Take Breaks
If your creative juices just stop flowing, then stop writing. You will get this novel finished. There is no need to stress if you stumble upon writer’s block along the way. Take a little break and come back to it when you’re ready.
Enjoy every minute of this. After this book, there will be a second, third, etc. But there will never be another “first novel” again. So take a breather and smile because you are going to be great.
